Celebrating Zambia’s Independence in Uppsala, Sweden!

The Kwacha Nordic Association proudly hosted the Zambian 2025 Independence Celebration . Uppsala vibrated to Zambia's biggest bash of the year which was held on October 25th, 2025 with "Ngoma zizalila" Drums.

It was a wonderful moment of unity, culture and pride. Bringing together Zambians and friends from across the Nordics to honour 61 years of freedom and progress. Attendees enjoyed a vibrant day filled with electrifying performances and rich cultural showcases. The fusion of Zambian and Tanzanian cuisine was a highlight, alongside dedicated games for children. The celebration culminated in a lively dance floor, ensuring a memorable gathering for all who attended this significant cultural event.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Embassy of the Republic  of Zambia in Sweden for their valued presence and continued support in strengthening the bond between Zambia and the Nordic community. Their representation truly made the celebration memorable.

A huge appreciation to our sponsors Niclas Wirén (Melcon AB), Joakim Spångberg, Professor Li Susanne Bennich-Bjorkman, and Karsten Lundeqvist for their generosity.

To everyone who joined, performed, volunteered and contributed to this event’s success, thank you! Together, we continue to showcase the beauty, resilience and unity of our Zambian heritage, even thousands of miles from home.

Welcoming SI Scholars

In collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Zambia in Stockholm, the Kwacha Nordic Association (KNA) proudly co-hosted a welcome and orientation for twelve (11) Svenska institutet (Swedish Institute) Scholarship awardees through SI Scholarships (20 Sept 2025).

We believe education is a tool for transformation. Our new scholars are encouraged to aim high, lead with discipline and integrity and represent Zambia proudly as they engage with Sweden’s culture of innovation.

KNA represented by Lemba Richard Nyirenda, together with SI alumni Zambia represented by Katongo Seyuba, organised a social meetup featuring a game of bowling to help students integrate and connect. This event provided an opportunity for the students to meet mentors and receive practical tips about life in Sweden, in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

We are grateful to the Embassy of the Republic of Zambian in Stockholm and the SI alumni network for helping us strengthen our diaspora community.
